There is not a "NY" method vs. "LA" method. Obviously, LA is more known for films, and NY for the stage. There are specific skill sets for each medium, but essentially good technique is good technique anywhere.

There is no such thing as acting styles among todays actors. All of todays acting is Realism. Approaches to acting, like the Method, Meisner Technique and Practical Aesthetics are not styles, they are ways of training actors. The resultant style is all the same, Realism or the appearance of reality.

Acting styles depend on where you were formally trained. Some people may be trained in classical theatre, and some may be trained in film and television. The location is different, because NY usually is for theatre(Broadway) and modeling is big there. Most actors who want to make it big in theatre move to NY. Los Angeles, on the other hand is know for television and film. Most actors who want to make it big in film and tv move there.
