If your question was phrased who do I think impacted music the most I would be inclined to name some artists. But the music industry is the business of music therefore I must answer shared credit goes to Thomas Edison and Valdimir Poulson who invented the first devices to record and playback the music the musician plays. making music a marketable product instead of an event that could only be experienced in person. And the impact of those devices is still in effect every time a piece of recorded music is purchased , downloaded, burned, and most of all recorded so we may all enjoy it where ever we may be.

I feel that Nirvana impacted the music industry the most because they single-handedly killed the glam rock movement of the 1980's and ushered in a new era of less manufactured music and stripped down style for the musician himself. Their influence is prevalent in much of the hard rock of the later 90's and now.

I love to think it might be Christina A, who brought back the blues stuff in the pop generation. It was really out of place, but worked. Now everyone knows they like blues and slow stuff like "hurt"

The most recent is M.I.A. She has brought military imagery where no one dared before, and she is the whole package no less. Vocals, bod, art, brain and beauty.
