I'm going on vacation for 4 days. What should I do about the baby guppies? There are four one week old babies and 5 seven week old babies. Would the 1 week old guppies be able to eat the food that comes from one of those vacation feeding blocks? I can't leave them with anyone because it would stress them out to move them. Thank you!

I doubt they would be able to eat of one of the feeding blocks. Try to remember that fish are used to not eating everyday in the wild so a few days will not hurt them. Being so young though i would just feed them well right befor leaving and they should be fine. I had a batch of fry born 10 mins befor i left for 4 days and they were all ok when i got back.

this is something that happens a lot to me :P

anyways, don't get those vacation feeders. half the time they don't work anyways. also, they pollute the water a lot. D: also, the food pieces might be too big for the fry.

anyways, if you are going to be gone for 4 days you have a few choices. : 1.) is to leave them be. this is not suggested but frys can last til about a week without food. this; however, stunts their growth. but if you get plants like java fern, elodea, wtv in the pet store, they can find food there anyhow. when frys are just born, they actually go to plants and search for food. also, i you have a sponge filter, they can fick off bits of food they find stuck to it.
2.) you can find someone to come in and feed them. they could be a friend, a neighbor, wtv. just tell them to come a certain time and feed them. i went on a 3 week vacation and that's what i did to my adult guppies. (frys should work too). you can offer pay if you are asking someone that isn't very close.
3.) i kno you said it'll stress them out; but this is what i did when i went to my 3 week vacation. i just want you to hear me out. i brought all my frys (i had like 40) to my grandparents house. they fed it; changed the whatever, etc...
they won't be stressed out. you can put them in a glass tank and drive it to your relatives, friends, etc's house. just make sure everything is level and nothing spills. although since you are actually going for a short period of time, this idea is the best. moving them to somewhere else is more like for longer vacations. but this idea is still good esp if you have a friend good with fish.

hope this will help :)

I would definately not buy those vacation feeders or blocks, they only pollute your tank and will do more harm then good

I alsways left my females in the main tank, so I didn't really need to feed them seperately, actually usually i wouldn't even see them until they were about a week old

But I also have lots of plants, so they are always able to hide

I would get live plants for your tank and put them in there, and just feed your fish before you leave as you would regularly

Hope that helps
Good luck

Hi there,
Do you have any one that can come in and feed the fish for you? If someone can, you can always get a breeders net and put them in there. That way they'd be safe from the bigger fish. I have baby platys and I've noticed that they're eating off of the bottom while they hide in the plants. If you leave them in the main tank with plenty of places to hide, they might be okay.
Hope this helps.
