I recently took a "lemon" to a mechanic and he advised not to buy it because the transmission was slipping. In the process of talking with him he said that one of his employees had a car that he wanted to sell. This is when I received the offer of the '97 Lumina. I asked the mechanic if the car had a/c and he said that it was leaking and did not know how much trouble it would be to fix it. I figured "if" you are a mechanic then why would it be "trouble" to fix it? I think that he was going to try and hit me up for more money if he fixed the a/c. What do you think? Thanks again for your help.

if it was in good shape that would be a good deal, but like you said why doesn't he fix the air,if indeed it actually has a real good engine in it,and everything did work on it,that would be a good deal,i think id pass on this one for now,it sounds like there's something missing on this deal,,honesty,,on his part, good luck .

Try not to buy a car from a mechanic as they know there is something is wrong with the car and hes trying to get rid of it. I rebuilt motor isnt the same as the factory engine so I would recommend not to buy it.

What constitutes a "rebuilt" motor? Has it been completely redone with new rings, bearings, valve guides, velves, springs and retainers, plus a new cam, including timing chain? If yes, it's a good deal, otherwise, I'd pass....The a/c may cost several hundred dollars to repair as well, since it could be anything from the compressor to the condensor. Good luck

Hmm, that doesn't sound like too bad of deal. You should probably tell him you'll buy it at that price if he fixes the AC. As far as him not fixing it, well he might not work AC or he might not have cared to fix it. Personally I don't really care if I have AC or not so it isn't something I would ever get around to fixing.
