Yes - the voters wanted to vote for style over substance, they wanted to be in the first group to give it to a defensive player.

no, Peyton was probably robbed more by Dameyune Craig showing him up in the SEC Championship Game (Tennessee won but it was way closer than advertised) for a team that featured Manning, Jamal Lewis, Peerless Price and many more notables, the UT team only managed to survive a late drive led by Craig to hold off Auburn for a 30 to 29 victory and had to make a comeback at that
news clip:
Before a Georgia Dome Sporting Event record crowd of 74,896, the Vols came from a 20-7 second quarter deficit to defeat the Tigers on Peyton Manning's 73-yard TD pass to Marcus Nash early in the fourth quarter.
this was the last opportunity for voters for the Heisman to see Manning.. and Woodson was all over the TV with his Heisman pose in the endzone.. and while Manning was the MVP with impressive stats like 25-43 2TD, 373 yards.. Tennessee looked flawed in that game

Not even. Woodson played in all 3 phases of the game shutting receivers down, playing receiver, and a dangerous punt returner. He clearly deserved the Heisman and is still a very good CB today ressurecting hus career last year with 8 picks and looks to do more damage this year with him and Harris paired up once again.

Thats ok because Fulmer got us back by voting us 3rd in the final poll so we had to give half of our national title to Nebraska. Woodson was the best player in the Nation that year. Injuries killed his pro career, But Michigans Defense went from 6th in the Nation to 38th in the nation in 1 year while returning every starter except Woodson. Tennesee was so devastated by Payton's loss they went out and won a National title. Pretty sure thats checkmate on this subject.

no.. quarterbacks are almost never the best player on any given team... they just have the opportunity to make big things happen more often because they always have the ball... Woodson was amazing, when he did touch the ball, great things happen. i think that QB's win it too often as it is.. I think that QB's should rarely win the heisman... but i really dont have much of a say do i...?

No. The voters were finally honest enough to vote for the best collegiate football player, not just the one with the best professional offensive potential.
It's just too bad they didn't do that when Orlando Pace was eligible.
