I've never seen a tornado, but once, when i was swimming when i was like 5, there was apparently an f1 in my city. Im really scared and i want to know the chances of one hitting in eastern/southern ontario?? I hate this fear!!!When ever i see a dark cloud coming i get scarred :( .

Easy hon. I live in southeastern ON and live with the chance of tornadoes every week. Educate yourself. Set up an emergency bag. Remember most of all: Panic never ever helps anyone!
Here is a site to help you out. I think it's a good one.

It's by the Red Cross.

I live near Dallas, Texas which is in "Tornado Alley" and I have the exact same fear. While it is possible for there to be tornado's in Ontario, I don't think that you will ever see too many of them. My advise to you is to stay as calm as possible. If you panic too much over them, you will start to give yourself panic attacks which are not fun. It sounds like maybe you have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from that tornado that you went through as a child. PTSD doesn't always develop directly after the incident occurs. It can develop years after the event occurred. If you feed into your fears they will only get worse. After the bad weather that we had over this past summer, if the forecast says that it will rain, I don't even leave the house because I am afraid that it will turn into severe weather. Let's just say that I haven't been out of the house much over the past 5 or 6 months. It really is a miserable way to live. Go see a counselor or buy a anxiety self help book before your fear takes over your everyday life.

I'm the same way and I live in Missouri which is in the fabled "tornado alley". I had one go through and severely damage our house in 1988 and ever since I am obsessed when we are under a watch. When the siren goes off during a storm, I start crying. What I do, is just keep an eye on the weather. If I go somewhere and a storm comes up, I make a mental plan of what I would do if.....at home and school (I'm a teacher and we have drills all the time) I know just what to do. You can't help what happens, but you can keep your mind alert and stay prepared. If you know what you might have to do, you don't feel so scared.

There are incidence maps that can provide this information. The Canadian equivanent of the National Weather Service should have these, and they can be accessed on the internet (or if this fails, try the US Weather Service for Buffalo, NY. ).
You may want to talk to a psychologist about this. How many other people in your area have such a fear? Even with tornado alley in the US, tornado deaths are about 100 per year, which is about the same as the number of people killed in auto accidents in ONE YEAR. Are you going to stop going in a car?

I live in Florida, we get allot of tornadoes, and hurricanes. It's natural to be concerned. The best thing to do is just monitor the weather channel, were it is, were it's heading. You can by those weather radios, some have S.M.A.R.T. technology, that the radio goes off like an alarm clock when there is severe weather in your area.

you can pull more info on line ,but usually tornadoes hit in flat areas. Like from Wisconsin, and Ill,then towards the west cost. I haven't heard of them in your area. But if they do come you really need to try and stay calm. Just go in the basement. If you don't have one then stand in between a door thing that isn't on one of the outside walls. NEVER get in your car to go someplace else.
