What would you do if a Category 5 hurricane was going to hit your vacation spot you were at?

Just left Jamaica. Many who wanted to leave couldnt. The airlines kept telling us there wasnt an official warning so they werent doing any thing. This warning for Jamaica finally came late Sat morning, and at that time flights were already full. The going rate to get out was $700-$1500 even when someone already had a return flight on that airline for Sunday or Monday, or later. We were also told that same morning the airport was already closed. It was pretty much a state of confusion, getting rumors and bad info from everyone around you. Phone and internet access were minimal. It was nothing like if you were going to evacuate from your home. You knew nothing. We got out, but many friends are still there - and they wanted to leave.

Also the roads at these spots, are not the same as the roads here. You're pretty much safer at the resort, even though its nestled between the ocean and hills.

Easy, go to a shelter since I don't own any property to get damaged. If I had a rental car, I would driver away from where the storm is going to hit and get a hotel there for a few days. Then I would catch a flight to leave afterwards.

I'd visit everything I could before hand then follow the advice of your hotel afterwards. If you can leave, I'd probably do that because I had some friends stuck on Kaua for two weeks after their last hurricane. it was very hard to get a flight out.

I'd stock up with water, find a high spot, and watch the action.
What else can you do? I love heavy weather, but I've fled from a hurricane in Galveston some years ago, and I'd do it again.
