It keeps freezing. I have changed the filters, but still it keeps freezing. Can you help please? What can I do to get it to stop freezing?

It's been getiing up to 110 with the heat factor, and the ac was working just fine up till yesterday when everything started freezing. I replaced the filters and theres no change. I dont have any idea what might of happened. I have 2 small children, and a pregnent wife who wont be able to handle the heat much more. Please help.

Since the filter is clean you know that is not the problem. However try running the system for a few minuets without the filter in and see if it ices up still. Some of the high efficiency pleated filters are too dense and don't allow enough air to flow through them.

If running the system without the filter solves the problem replace the filter with a standard fiberglass filter. Fiberglass filters are great at letting air flow through.

Also make sure all the vents are open or any dampers that your system may have. If too many vents/dampers are closed that can also reduce air flow enough to cause icing.

If the outside temperature is below 70f don't run your system this can cause icing.

If none of these things solve the problem you need to call an HVAC tech. You could be low on refrigerant or have a bad metering device. Only a tech will be able to find what is starving the evaporator.

Low freon, low airflow, or a combination of the two.

Other possibilities: Low ambient temperatures--If it's very cool inside or outside it might freeze. Also it's possible the indoor fan motor overheats and quits.
