Three Day Training Program:
First day:
I would go over company policies and procedures with documents that the employee would read and sign to make sure they understood them.
I would also go over how to interact with customers, and who to report to if there is a problem they can not resolve, chain of command. I would also go over state and federal laws on sexual harassment, pay days, pay periods, breaks, lunches and important information the employee would want to know.
Than I would send the employee with a more experienced employee (some companies have certain employees who are considered leads who will train new employees.) for the rest of day to observe. This way they can ask questions.
Second Day:
I would set up a dummy computer or register that could be used for training or if that was not possible, again putting the employee with a experienced employee on the register, this way they get the experience and can ask questions.
I would check in from time to time or oversee the training in person if possible!
Also if there is any type of documents that the employee could read on how to operate the register, how to stock merchandise that would be helpfull.
Third Day:
Would leave employee to work in the department with customers, making sure employee could contact a supervisor or manager if needed.

In addition, you might:
1. Have key managers come to the classroom and introduce themselves and explain the times when those managers might be in a position to help the new employees.
2. Have the new employees role play with each other as customer and sales clerk.
3. I would give a full day focused on product knowledge.
4. I would explain the companies credit policies and tell the new employees about its advertising campaigns.
