Can you think of a reason why they might choose not to confide in you about it?

Thanks for pointing that out, Hilduuf. I really hate not being able to edit out spelling and usage answers in questions.

Jusr for that I ain't telling. But regardless of orientation, a man would have to lack a pulse to not desire you, Lady M.

For starters, I make a point of telling my friends that if they have a secret they better not tell me as I am a lousy liar. My friends know me and know this is true. Secondly, I live in the land of buckrail fences and work in one of the heavy industries. Such things are not talked about or admitted to around here. Someday I will move to a place where freedom rings... I'm not gay myself but there are many other things I am very careful about discussing in public around here. That's part of what I like about Yahoo Answers, here I can listen to all opinions and occasionally offer my own silly ones without having to worry too much about getting beat up in the parking lot. I'm not real fond of having to carry concealed, and would rather not have to go back to that.

there is no reason why anyone who knows me would feel uncomfortable about telling me that they are gay, if it would be about how I might respond. I live in the Bay Aea, heteros are damn near the minority! LOL. I absolutely have no problem with gays folks.
There are some rumors that my husband's ex is ay but I would be one of the last people she'd come out to. Other reasons.... but I do think it isone of the reasons he had such a bad image of himself in bed before I straightened him out!
So darling, are you gay? I don't care either way, I just hope you keep up your singing career, it was so very moving.

I think about 1 in 10 people are gay, 5 out of 10 are bisexuals.
My friends are pretty open about their sexual orientation. Having been schooled in the College of Fine Arts made them liberal about admitting this thing so I was able to make that calculations. Out of college, I met lots of people who fit in the category too. They don't have to tell me, I just know. My gaydar and bidar have been very developed...lol.

To desire/enjoy pleasure with presumable same gender does not explicitly denote gay or homosexual status! It suggests some degree of homoffinity, whether pertaining to male or female. Bisexuality is the most common sexuality in the world.
I agree that statistics vary sometimes...

There are several gay people who are rejected by their families as well as their friends when they tell others of their sexual orientation, so if a gay person is not sure of another persons reaction they may not choose to confide that part of themselves out of a fear of rejection.

I thought it was 1 in 10 but they might be afraid of telling people, they have to come out to themselves first.

I have a LOT of close friends who are Gay and Lesbian. I am very open about accepting and befriending ANYONE who is willing to befriend me. I have had several friends come out to me who have never come out to the community at large. When someone comes out to me, the first thing I ask them is if they are out of the closet to everyone. If they say "no' I tell them that I won't out them myself and that if anyone finds out then it's going to have to come from their mouth, not mine.
And yes, I give my Gay/Lesbian friends hugs too. LOL Believe it or not, it's NOT contagious! LOL (Well the hugging is, but the gayness isn't, LOL)
Brightest Blessings,

1 in 10.
And I have less than 9 friends.
Several friendly acquaintances... but very few friends.
And it's "your".

Perhaps they wouldn't bother telling me about it because they know it's a non-issue for me. I don't pick my friends based upon their sexuality.
