Have very good field vision, know when to break into the hole, know when to follow your blockers, know when to brake it outside, you really just have to have great speed into the hole, good field vision to know where and what your doing and to cover the ball well under your arm so you can cut down on fumbles. Hope that helps, good luck

To Be A Dominant Quarterback
In times past good quarterbacks could get away without being in the best of shape. Today's most effective quarterbacks are those that in addition to being a good passer are quick and powerful like Michael Vick.
Proper Blocking
When blocking a defender, make sure you are attempting to drive your defender in the direction you want him to move. Too many young players don't keep their feet moving when blocking. Instead they get to their defender, slow down and try to use their upper body to do most of the work.
Protecting Your Quarterback
Coaches should think twice about prohibitting their quarterback from being hit in practice. Certainly they should be protected somewhat but to completely keep them from being contacted might cause them to suffer in game situations.
Committment & Dedication
If you don't make a total commitment to whatever you're doing, then you start looking to bail out the first time the boat starts leaking. It's tough enough getting that boat to shore with everybody rowing, let alone when a guy stands up and starts putting his jacket on.
Intensity In Practice
Football players and teams play like they practice. If practice sessions are not intense and competitive then game performances will be less than satisfactory. Top-notch players and coaches always practice like it's the week before the Super Bowl.
Staying Aggressive
When playing football you always need to stay aggressive both physically and mentally. If you relax for even just a slight moment while on the field, you will likely perform poorly and could get seriously injured. Football is not meant for those who are weak mentally or physically.

I would have to say that you look for an opening in the field when you get the ball and shoot for it. If suddenly a safety comes barging through that opening of yours, pull something of your own on him ( stiff arm, juke, etc. ). With these tips you should be running the ball at a decent speed. As for your problem with the coach, just tell him that you would like to try a different position for maybe a practice or a game or two. Usually coaches like to see the potential in all of their football players and what position is best suited for them.
