You may use a converter software to convert .dat file to YouTube and Vimeo video. Many such converter software on Internet which you could search it on http://www.google.com
Here I recommend you to try Daniusoft video Converter which a friend told me. It could help you convert any .dat file to YouTube and Vimeo video and other popular video formats with only three steps. Also let you set the movie effects, crop/ trim video.

just rename the extension to .mpg

you'll have to go to folder options and uncheck the "hide extension of know file types" (see the picture) http://www.fileinfo.net/images/help/win-folder-options-view.gif
to be able to rename the extension.
