I asked my now husband out first. We were friends for years prior to this, and I just woke up one day and took a chance. It was starting to get complicated, a little flirting here and there, ya know, just things that coulda led to sex, or just things in general to end a great friendship, so I figured I'd start out with a simple date question, before we screwed it up and ended up in bed together, and complicated a friendship. My gamble paid off, cuz I am now his wife. Oh, and I also "went in for the first kiss" before he did.

A lot of women don't ask men out because they've been raised to believe that the man wants to do the chasing, and asking puts the woman in the role of pursuer and it seems unromantic...or they think the man will think they are desperate or easy.
As for me, I don't have a problem asking a man out. So how about it? j/k I got a sweetheart already...and yes, I had asked him out first.

Don't know why other women don't-- probably the same reason as men--fear of rejection.
When I want to--I ask....

Because by nature, the primal instinct of the man is to hunt and pursue. If the woman does this - they are out of bounds. A few men respond well to this, the majority don't want women to ask them out unless it is for a meaningless quickie.

'Taint true, Magee. "They" aren't always waiting. Not wise to wait for someone else to snatch up the one you're interested in.

because on the society that we live in, it is not acceptable for women to ask out first. And also, some men take the wrong impression.

If a man doesn't have enough cojones to ask me out, he doesn't have enough cojones to strive in live for anything better, and if doesn't have cojones, then he obviously doens't have enough testosterone to defend me or a family.
It's all about the cojones baby!
