Unfortunately, and shockingly enough, many don't think that there is currently a problem. Is it any wonder they are not considered to be progressive.

There are two separate problems with healthcare. The first is that lots of people don't have health insurance. Liberals want to solve that by giving everyone free healthcare. (Which is a bad idea.)
But the second problem is that healthcare is too expensive. Liberals aren't suggesting any solutions to that. Actually, if they gave everyone free healthcare, the costs would actually go up.
One big problem that causes healthcare to be so expensive is that there are so many frivolous lawsuits. Conservatives have a solution for that: lawsuit reform. But Liberals are actually standing in the way of that, because they're beholden to the trial lawyers. So on that issue, the Liberals are definitely the problem.

Have a look at the health care system in Germany. One important step that the government can do and many other countries (i.e. Canada, other Europeans, Japan, Australia, etc) do is to cap what pharma companies can charge for their products. I can buy the identical antibiotic outside the US for 10% of what I pay for it in the US. Would the profits of the pharma companies decrease? No - why? because if you look at the income statements of the pharma companies, you'll see that the majority of their spending isn't on research, but marketing. So there's a good start.
The second step is to mandate that insurance companies don't put a "lifetime cap" on benefits. In all other civilized countries, that practice is against the law... but not here.
Third step - hold health care organizations (i.e. hospitals) accountable for their spending. They buy all sorts of new gadgets that they cannot afford and they finance them (borrow money at horrendous interest rates). Guess who gets to pay for that. If they buy some instrument that helps in the diagnosis of some exotic disease where they have 1 case a year, then that's clearly not an efficient way to spend.
Bottom line.. there is a lot to fix on many ends and it doesn't matter whether one's a conservative or liberal or purple. The problem lies with the politicians being the usual prostitutes to the lobbyists without concern for the public that they're supposed to serve, else we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.

Solutions are simple, yet very complex. We need first of all, to get control back over our food supply. Stop comtaminating it with chemicals! Stop processing all the nutrients out of it!
Stop filling people with drugs instead of looking for the root cause.
Health care costs are out of control because years ago somebody got the "brilliant" idea to start covering everything under insurance. They reacted to that by adding co-pays. This little tactic didn't really fix it. On top of that we have developed a litigation happy society. That has gotten so bad that it's driving doctors out of business because they can't afford their insurance!
We need to go back to basics. Won't happen overnight, but it will eventually work.

Apparently we can ignore the fact that so many people don't have health insurance, because even with Obamacare some 37 million Americans still won't be able to afford it (Obama administration's numbers), and on top of that they'll be fined for not doing so.

you want solutions. and you somehow expect from the US Govt.? They can't even manage Social Security which is suppose to be relatively easy to manage. You think the US Govt. will be able to come up with a health care plan that will work? Not a chance. Doesn't matter if it's the Dems or the GOP neither of them can get it done & if they try all they'll do is raise taxes for everyone & just waste the money on another failed Govt. program.

Why do you think one of the reasons for the rising health care costs.....having to provide care for free to a good number of people!
Lots of people go to the emergency room with no intention of paying their bill. So what is a hospital supposed to do, just write it off? Ever think about how many hospitals shut down for this exact reason?
Oh, and a few years ago, all the lawsuits against OB/GYN doctors that many could no longer afford the malpractice insurance so they left the field.
The Dems/Libs want free health care for EVERYONE in the country, run by the govt....have you seen the govt do one thing correctly and efficiently? Look at your local DMV, welfare offices, or the IRS....and you want these same people involved in your health care too? Not me!

Easy, allow the free market to do it's job, it is not everybody's constitutional right to have health care and the government should stay out of socializing medicine. What has the government taken over that is has NOT screwed up? Think education perhaps?
The only solution that should come from the government should be legislation capping outrageous malpractice damages, which many states have passed. Then malpractice insurance rates would fall and the cost of doctors setting up practices would drop as well.

Privatizing healthcare only makes it more expensive. Sliding fee scale health clinics and hospitals are the way to go!
I have worked in non-profit clinics, and the doctors and staff provided better care than what people get in a private practice.
A solution to the price of healthcare would be to make preventable healthcare available to everyone, and make generic drugs available to all who need it.
Only in private practice can they charge $125 for a bandaid. This really needs to stop!

Any effective solution for health care problems involves ethics and morality and considerations for people. Their jungle ideology of the survival of the fittest, that is market and money and profits, does not allow them to have a solution.

1. Caps on lawsuits.
2. Make plaintiffs pay legal fees for frivolous lawsuits
3. Pass laws that cause the cost of malpractice insurance to go down.
You have to cut the costs of insurance companies being in business. Do this and costs go down.
My solution is each person pay for all their own insurance: health, disability, etc. A person pays for it out of their pocket and they will treat it differently.
