There is a building with a whole bunch of gold mines in it that are only accesible by people with (I believe) 40 crafting. Is that the only requirement? (I think the building is south west of Varrock).

South West Of varrock is a mine of silver. The building i believe you are thinking of is the crafting guild south of falador. It is required to have 40 crafting and a brown apron to get into the guild. There are like 5 rocks in there.

That is the crafting guild which is southwest of falador. In order to get inside you need to have 40 crafting and wearing a brown apron which can be bought at the varrock cloth shop.
A good way to get your crafting up is go collect cowhides in lumbridge, then go to alkarid to tan, then make them into leather armor and sell at the alkarid store and repeat.

Thats the crafting guild south of Falador. You'll need a brown apron to get in. Inside there is a gold & silver mine, a tanner & many of the molds used to make jewlry.
