The brand is really irrelevant. Choosing a pad depends on your flow. Is is a lot? Get something longer and super absorbent, if it is light you can get away with a smaller pad. I think Always brand pads are about the best out there. They have the wings and protect your under garments from stains. Tampon use is tricky, and often uncomfortable for a younger girl, or a girl who isn't sexually active. They sell slender tampons though, particularly Playtex, they have a slender brand of pearl tampons, which are good for younger girls who have never used tampons before. Tampon use used to be linked to an illness called Toxic Shock Syndrome. It is almost unheard of nowadays, but basically it was caused from using a too absorbent for your flow tampon....For example using a super tampon when you had a very light period.....
For great period advice, go to "beinggirl.com" they have samples, and advice for younger girls who are just getting their periods and have a ton of questions about what is right to use, and what risks are associated with tampon use. Good Luck Sweetie.

i'd go with always w/wings (green and yellow package). there are different thicknesses and lengths so it depends on how heavy your flow is and what kind of activity you'll be partaking in. When i first had my period i would wear the normal lenght, relatively thin ones druing the day and the longer ones at night just in case there was spillage ( i had a horrible heavy period for the longest time). if you're having a light period or are at the end of it and don't think it's heavy enough for a normal pad, try the carefree pantyliners. and when you upgrade to tampons eventually, i suggest kotex multipack with the various absorbencies. and if you see those pads or panytliners that are for thongs, run in the opposite direction. those are the most ridiculous things i've ever seen. good luck!
oh yea and if you're worried about taking your period supplies to school, just get a nifty makeup bag to put them in so they aren't obvious. not that people should care because it's natural for girls to have periods, but i understand how it feels to be new at it.

The brand doesn't matter... it all has to do with your flow. I mean every woman has the brand they prefer but you'll learn that as you journey through your cycle. I would advise you to get a thin pad because it makes you feel more comforatable and it does not feel like a diaper but provides superior protection. If you have a little extra money get two different brands and use one brand today and the other brand tomorrow and see what you like the best. I prefer Kotex and hate Stayfree but it's all a matter of preferece! Good Luck and have a happy period ;-)

Just get some EQUATE or other house brands to start with. After you know how heavy your period is try a different brand for comfort and need. its individual. I went through 6 different brands until ifound one the fit me well and was comfortable and had enough abosorbancy but not too much for my needs. You will be having periods for a long time to come so make the first year one of expereimentation with each period tryinga different brand each month. Pads don't expire so you can keep extras and use them at a later date.

Try normal pads with wings ( wings help at night if u roll around lol, like me) uknow they come in different absorbencys, right? start with normal until ur familiar with ur period then change to super or light depending on how much blood comes out.
I reccomend Kotex pads :) they fold them so small that they are the size of half an ipod mini! But the pads are normal size, dont worry. oh yeah and when u open them they dont make noise :) lol!
good luck!

I don't remember the name but try something that is not too wide or thick and get it with wings. It will take come getting used to having something between your legs.
There are many products out there and they all have descriptions.
I will suggest this much though, get a pad for night time too. This way you will be protected from leaking in the front or back and having your clothing/bedding in a mess.
Peroxide takes out blood and it doesn't matter what the color or fabric is or you can get the Oxyclean (something like that) to spray on fabrics.

My daughters and I prefer Always brand because they are so light and thin yet, very absorbant. My girls are petite but, prefer the long pads with wings for extra protection while they are at school. No one wants to be embarrased by an accident while she is out.

You should get the kind that you can wear for 4 or 5 hours with out having to change it. Don`t get ultra thin if you want to go 4 or 5 hours without changing. Get a kind that has some thickness to it......unless you don`t mind going to the bathroom every 2 hours.... but better yet...why not just use tampons??? You can leave them in MUCH longer...and they are not as messy.

get some according to flow
get wings..if u want to save your underwear
dont get bulky..uncomfortable..what i wore when i first got it!
everyone would here my diaper while walking
ohh yes and make sure to buy some underwear for period days...
I wouldnt suggest tampons unless you are going swimming or something...they are not healthy! My doctor said they block the flow and are dangerous if kept in too long!!

It really doesn't matter what brand you get (I used to use the store-brand and they worked fine). Just make sure to get pads with wings.
