NO contract, but you will pay out the butt for minutes. It would cost way more than just getting a contract phone with the unlimited text and pic messaging. A good example is if you sent 500 text messages a month the phone cards for that would cost well over $100. the plans for contract phones start at $39 for the unlimited texting.

Depends what carrier you go with.
Most of them deduct minutes you already have. Like net10 and tracfone deduct .5 minutes for every text or 5 cents.

I think carriers like Cingular and stuff deduct a money amount.. probably a couple cents.

You can buy phone cards at gas stations and stuff... usually you put a code on the card into your phone which either gives you the # of mins on the card or a money amount. And you can use the minutes until you run out and have to buy a new one.
Prepaid is the way to go if you don't talk much... or if your parents are anal and won't get you a phone.

hope this helps.

Mine is a Cingular (Now AT&T) GoPhone and there's no contract (I think)....25 cents a minute....5 cents per text (in going and out going)....I've never used a phone card with mine...my mom uses her credit card to put $25 on it every 3 months. If I use it all up before the 3 months I hafta put a min of $15 for one month....if I don't use it up before the month, it's gone....it also has Internet and I never figured out how much per minute that is but I can check my email in a timely fashion for about 45 cents ;D (BTW: Mine's an older version though...)

No, they usually go by credits. You can buy as many credits as you want. You usually lose a credit or two texting and lose some receiving texts. You do not have to sign a contract, they are anonymous.

I have prepaid with AT&T, and text messaging works fine. You are charged 10 cents per message. No contracts to sign with prepaid.
