I had my first son 4 weeks early and the doctors could give me no reason as to why. I am now pregnant with my second child and the midwives I have now are all interested to see if I will have this baby early. Since the doctors and midwives do not have an answer for me, I was wonder if anyone else has been in this situation, and what the outcome was.

My son was born health 4 weeks early, and had no medical problems. He was 5'6" at birth and left the hospital on time weighting 5 lb.

Statistically speaking if you have a premature baby (36 weeks or before) you have a 20-40% chance of having a premature baby again, but it depends on what caused it. I know have families who have had multiple premies, and some with only one. Luckily you made it to 36 weeks, which is pretty much out of the danger zone.

Well, my sister had her first baby at 36 weeks, her second at 34 weeks and her third on her due date. I had my son at 33 weeks and am now 9 days away from my due date. I think a lot of things affect when the baby will come out. For instance, they told me not to have sex and to stay off my feet with my second pregnancy and I've tried to refrain from doing both, and I guess it worked this time. But then again it can also just depend on your body or your baby. Good Luck!!

If they have no idea what caused the early delivery the first time around I would imagine that they will watch you for an incompetant cervix since that is an often unknown reason for early delivery. Also possible that the dates where off a bit.
