The past is my destination. The place I would go would be about a month before the burning of the Library of Alexandria. I would attempt to collect as many of the scrolls as possible before the Romans "accidentally" set torches to it. Then return them after the fires were extinguished. The knowledge that was stored there took thousands of years to rediscover and to be able to go back and save these treasured works would be invaluable to mankind.

I would go back to the fourth grade and start all over again. There are a couple of girls I should have spent more quality time with.

Or, before I did that, I would cruise along in Iraq and pull various soldiers off of roads before the hidden IEDs blew them all to bits. Having saved 400 - 500 - 600 guys, then I would slip off back to the 4th grade and start my travel back through time.

I was very enthusiastic about the response to your question that suggested traveling forward a few days to see the winning Lotto number then returning home in today's time to purchase the winning ticket. That would surely take care of the need for a lot of basic necessities like Corvettes and Boats.

To check on the birth and life of Jesus of course.

There is a lot of myth about him and some first hand observation could tell us some fundamental things about the bible. It could also provide proof on the existence of God. If Jesus really did rise from the dead and suddenly appeared to apostles, as described, then the Bible is true and that would give one of the biggest religions a huge boost.

Of course if Jesus was found to be a normal man then it would crush the religion of Christianity, but the Jewish religion might be safe.

Personally, I was raised in the Catholic Church, but I am no longer a believer. It would be nice to have some empirical proof rather than just having to go on faith. I believe that Jesus was a real person, and he set an excellent example on how to live your life; or maybe he was a composite of several people, or maybe he really was the son of God. Wouldn’t you love to know the truth? We know that he was born in 3 B.C. (yes the early monks made a mistake and got his birthday wrong by 3 years) and we know where. Thanks to the census by King Heriod, which is why Joseph and Mary had to go to Bethlehem, we know a lot about where and when he was born. This is empirical evidence and can be used to prove or disprove the rest.

The proof for the existence of the Islamic Profit is pretty stable and clear, so studying him would be interesting, but we wouldn’t find out a lot of new things. The study of Jesus could create a fundamental change in mankind and it would set our future direction and effect the daily life of billions of people.
