I have six cats... they like to sleep in my bed, will this increase my chances of getting it?
Also.. I was just wondering if breathing while being around them could do anything.

Exactly how do you get it from a cat? touching? ingesting fur? Im so confused.

This is actually called Toxoplasmosis. Specifically from handling feces from a cat who is infected. So if you have no one else to do kitty box duty wear gloves and dust mask and wash your hands afterwards.
Also realize that most indoor only cats are never exposed to this. It's a bigger deal say if you are digging outside in a garden where strays may have gone.
Cats acquire toxoplasmosis from eating contaminated raw meat, birds, mice, or soil.
I included a link to a site that has very good information on transmission etc. I wouldn't worry personally.

You aren't concerned with Toxemia in relation to your cats, that is an increase in your blood pressure which you should still watch but your cats have no affect on.

You are talking about Toxoplasmosis I think is the spelling.

Likely if you have had cats for a while you have contracted it in the past and I think you can only get it once.

But to play it safe have someone else change the litter boxes and wash your hands after you pet them, before eating etc.

It is something in their fecal matter. Mostly outdoor cats carry it but doctors play it safe and put the litter box off limits to pregnant women.

Good Luck and Congrats

Toxoplasmosis a parasite passed through cat feces. They catch it outside so chances are good that they don't even have it if they don't go out side. They are now also saying that your chances of getting it is actually higher from handling raw meat than from your indoor cat. Also if you have had exposure to cats for a while chances are good you have already had it and didn't know it so aren't likely to get it again as you should be immune.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Here is some really good info on it.

Cats carry many things, and they are not GREAT to have around while you are pregnant. You can get lots of stuff from them while you are, but as for toxemia, I am not sure.

Good Luck sweetie...when is the baby due?

its in the cats feces, so don't scoop the litter box, get your partner to do it. Toxoplasmosis is very rare, almost unheard of in north america, but its not worth the risk to your baby. Good luck

I've read that it can only affect the baby in the first trimester, so you'll be able to relax soon. Just don't tell you husband. ;-)
