I would buy the yellow jacket bug spray at Home Depot. You have to use it either at night or early morning when they are least active.

If they're yellow jackets or 'meat bees' try a bucket of water with a piece of raw meat on top of something like a small piece of wood so that it floats on the water---they'll go nuts for that meat and they'll all eventually be floating in the water-it works
If they're wasps-use the spray at sunrise and they'll be dead quick black flag is good..you can spray it from about 25 feet.

buy some garden dust insecticide and pour some into the hole. they will track it into the nest and it will kill the larva. then it's only a matter off getting the big guys. only try to kill them early or late, when they are not active. hairsray temporarily hardens their wings and is awesome for getting them to stay put long enough to spray them with wasp killer
