Poltergeist is the first and most successful Poltergeist film, released on June 4, 1982 and nominated for three Oscars. The film was directed by Tobe Hooper and was co-produced and co-written by Steven Spielberg. Spielberg had chosen Hooper as director due to his feature film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). This was Spielberg's first major success as a producer. The film's plot revolves around the haunting of a suburban family home that is suspected to be the work of poltergeists.

Yes, it's a movie produced by Stephen Speilberg. Great movie, funny and scary at the same time (the scene with the kitchen chairs gets me every time!!)

Rent it if you can. Worth the time to watch.

There were also rumors of a "curse" surrounding this. The little girl Heather O'Rourke died a few years after filming one of the sequels. Also Dominique Dunne was killed (she played the eldest daughter). Also were stories of accidents and bad things happening to people on the set and during filming... take these at face value.

anyway, watch it if you get a chance!

I guess we are showing our age around here aren't we? It came out in the 80's. Was a really suspensful movie with a lot of bad things that happened to the people involved surrounding the production of it. Anyway yea I have heard and seen it.

Yes, I have seen all of them. Scared me as a kid. The best one is the one where the little girl is trapped in the mirrors. That was the scariest. Did you know in real life, the actress that played the little girl died of Septic Shock and the last words she spoke were" They're back". Also the actress that played the little girls sister died in real life when her boyfriend strangled her. A few other people on the set of the movies died suddenly as well. Coincidence, maybe?

One of the scariest movies I saw as a kid (I'm 34 now). I watched it again a few years ago and found it didn't hold up well - but then I saw it many times when I was younger.

I would still recommend it if you like scary movies.

Of course....Man you guys are making me seem like I'm ancient and I'm not even 30.

I feel for you young kids because you only know of the crappy scary movies of today, which are basically remakes of the ones I grew up on. And when they remake them they don't even improve them, they just put a younger, well known actor in it
