it seems like there is dried up calcium or some type of stain on the fish tank glass. it looks like its just foggy. its only present on the top half of the glass (all around the fish tank). when i add water it kind of goes away. but when i clean it and let it dry it comes back. ive tried scraping it off with everything! there has to be some type of chemical that'll take it off. i think we got it because we didn't use it for about a year or so. all the water in it evaporated and when i cleaned it just recently i noticed it on the top half of the glass.

Take the fish out put them in a separate bowl. Then wash everything out thoroughly with baking soda and salt. Rinse well, very well.

Salt and baking soda are harmless to your fish in small amounts and they are very good for cleaning off algae. Also, if you rinse well that gets rid of any fish poop and any baking soda or salt that may be left over.

Salt and Baking soda are not harsh chemicals like ones some on here will recommend, but go ahead, thumb me down all you want people.

edit: The truth is still on my side as far as the chemistry goes, regardless of how many thumbs downs you all give me. Vinegar is an acid, acetic acid, and you cannot get more harsh then an acid.

Salt however, its just a mineral and baking soda is just a very alkaline sodium bicarbonate.

You can try to use vinegar. Let it soak and the try to scrub it off with a clean sponge or rag. Chemicals aren't recommended because some leave traces behind and can affect the fish.
Good Luck!

Follow up: Jasin don't email me whining about your thumbs down. I gave you one. Not both I don't have time to have multiply accounts. I have over 50 fish and 3 children to take care of.

Ditto to Luvin Life
the only add on on vinegar is that you should use the white one.

What you also could try, and which worked great for me, is using pure lemon juice, just pour it on, let it sit for about 5-10 min and remove it with a wet soft cloth

Hope that helps
Good luck

At first I would just try to use a magna-sweep, then try some other suggestions!!
