The human animal is always looking for a weakness. Those who don't speak alot are considered an enigma and must be figured out. Hence the jabs. They are all engineered to find the weak spot. Once they are located or the person speaks up and gives an idea what they are like most teasing, picking on stops. Not always though.

I think most people are secretly intimidated by the quiet ones. I'm one of the quiet ones, and I get the impression from others that they think it's not "normal" to be so quiet. I've been told to be more sociable, but I'm just not. Never have been. I don't get it. I'm not always quiet, but mostly I am.

In American culture, speaking out is valued over being quiet. People who are quiet are seen as weak, and therefore easy targets.
