It's pathetic that HMO's are a multibillion dollar industry who's primary goal is to reward shareholders. Ya, give me thumbs down. It's so sad that the rich get richer every time they deny you care and yet you actually think that's OK. You must just love paying hundreds monthly for your family plan so the Kaiser CEO can buy a bigger yacht. Why don't you republicans try getting your head out of your a** just once. Than maybe you won't cont to loose your seats in congress and senate and you preciouse president may actually have an approval rating better than that whopping 28% that the dumb a** currently has.

I'm not talking about universal health care. I'm talking about NOT-FOR-PROFIT

America's healthcare system is a disgrace. Enough said.

I don't think it will ever be wholly "not-for-profit," and that may even be a good thing; capitalism has led the US to some great advancements in health care. The problem is that, as the system is structured, few Americans can take full advantage of those advancements! What we need is stronger oversight of the for-profit healthcare that we have, with more of an emphasis on patients' rights, especially for middle-class workers who have insurance which doesn't always do enough for them--and, yes, basic universal healthcare for those who cannot afford insurance.

Most of the hospitals in this country WERE non-profit until the government got involved and forced everybody to go to HMO's.

Whatever "universal healthcare" plan they eventually come up with, you can be sure it will become another profit center for the major corporations and another boondoggle for the taxpayers. And forget about improved care.

Can't we just go back to free markets for healthcare? That's when we DID have non-profits running most of the industry.

I want universal health care but I seriously doubt it will happen for another 10 years. I don't think any of these candidates have the guts to get it done. You know, I'm open minded. I've read some posts and have now switched my view. Universal health care would degrade quality of healthcare given....what should change is the lobbying for insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies so that people who do pay for healthcare, get there needs met. I also don't agree with kids having kids while America supports them rotating and continuing that viscious cycle.

No, it will not. I agree that the insurance industry is ripping this country off but the doctors incur costs to provide services to patients. I think the targets should be pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies and not the people who choose to go to school for years to provide medical services.

Congress has a whooping lower approval rating than the Prez. Therefore, if the President is a dumb a**, then the Democratic Congress must be even less intelligent than he is. Futhermore, why would taxpayes shove their hard earned money into a flawed system where a out of work, lazy guy sits on the couch all day, and gets medical care.

I hope not. Most things run in the private sector get you more for your money than the same service done by the government. What would be better is if the government starts to "ease" it's way out of being service provider for things - start with school vouchers.

Republican and guess what? Insurance through my government job is free. And to boot, it only cost 138 dollars to add my dependent.

Why don't you quit HMO's and get another plan? Under a national health care you will be begging to be back under an HMO. Don't kid yourself and think you will receive today's treatments at reduced prices. That is naivety at its highest. In fact you will be lucky to get as good of care as the VA.
