I use dialup and I make voip calls every once in a while, the first few minutes, quality is pretty good, but then various applications including windows processes start hogging the bandwidth for updates, etc and the connection drops. Is there an application or a way out there that I can block internet access to all applications except a specific application such as the voip software I'm using? Thanks.

Thanks for your answer, I user kaspersky but the thought if resorting to a firewall and blocking everything every time I want to use a specific application is not very practical.

You can also block them in Windows FIrewall.

I use Sygate personal firewall and it has a display where you can choose which programs to block. I find it is a little quicker and more user friendly than the Windows Firewall.
