if it's possible to change one's mind, is it possible to change one's heart?

A change of heart goes deeper than a change of mind. It is a more radical change in the person. It is possible to change either, but harder to reverse a change of heart. One's heart can be hardened in an instant, but his is usually following a course already laid out by many little steps along the way and choices the person has made. When Pharaoh's heart was hardened in the Bible it led to him changing his mind, but it was all his previous vacillations that led to the hardening of his heart which God knew from the beginnning. Later in Isaiah it speaks of God trading a heart of flesh for a heart of stone. These passages imply that something more than human agency is involved in the radical change we speak of as a change of heart. The thoughts of the mind are far more fluid and disconnected than the emotions of the heart. Emotions are the things which move us from within, thoughts are the information sensory and otherwise which inform our actions or analyze their results. We own our emotions more than we do our thoughts. The heart is directional even when the mind is indifferent.

Heart is when your feelings change;
Mind is when you choose to think differently. Usually the mind takes a few seconds to change; the heart takes a lot longer.

To change your heart is more fundemental. It is a slower and more anchored change. Changing your mind can be more fleeting, more spur the moment. It is emotions and thoughts verses philosophies and beliefs.
Well, given the nature of the heart as I have described above, it should not be possible to change your heart, no. But sometimes wisdom may be revealed and a humble person would do well to filter the new idea through their philosophy and possibly adopt it, yes.

I can't help but wonder if some people aren't taking this too literally. Or maybe I'm not taking it literally enough. The "heart" is a symbol to me. It represents love. Love can be (emotionally) abused, incompatible, thoughtless--& over time, the terrain gets so rough (& even painful) that the heart just closes down. Does that mean we changed our heart, or things changed IT, or what? I honestly don't have an answer, but this is basically the way that I "feel" your question.

Change of Mind, is easier to do than Change of heart, because when you set your mind on someone or something, you can change your MInd if you want too. On the other Hand, Change of Heart is a little bit harder to do,because you are dealing with your sentiments.

everything in this world is possible nothing is impossible it might be difficult instead of impossible.
sometimes heart rules the mind and change of heart obviously brings change of mind too to ceratin extent in that case.
in front of few people heart is taken as negative power and mind is taken as positive and they think that decisions made by mind are always true because of logic in it but decisions made by heart are sometimes wrong because of absence of any logic
mind decisions are not based on estimations
where heart decisions are based on estimations.
many incidences in the world which are appealing can touch both our mind and heart
so whatever is appealing is not necessary touch the mind but definately it will touch the heart.
if your mind has complete control on you then change in mind would lead to change in heart but you can not totally change the mind , you can only change the thinkings, concepts and views of a person
but there are many people have firm opinions on different things and these opinions are accurate one then it would not be changed
you can not change the mind and heart of a person who is correct .infact that person will change your opinions.
i believe mind leads to goodness and heart leads to evil.
believe can be changed but faith can not be changed
and when the question comes of faith you can not change the mind.

More important than change of heart, change of mind is change (action).

Actions speak louder than words - this is a cliche, but there's nothing truer.

So first act, and then changes in the heart and mind will follow.

It's possible to say that a change of heart is first motivated by a change of mind, but I don't believe that. I frankly don't believe we CHANGE our hearts. The feelings in our hearts change on their own. Deep, emotional & non-intellectual.

Well a change of mind can happen immediately but a change of heart takes much longer. It doesn't happen overnight, it's something that builds over the days, months or even years. I think a change of heart is much harder to achieve than a change of mind.
