People are very shallow, as long as you drive well and safely they have no reason to slag you off.
I drive a Range Rover and I purposely say an estate car if asked as people think you are a snob and SOME get jealous(when in fact you can buy a second hand good one for around £6000 upwards. People assume I paid £60,000!
It is their problem, not yours so just let them get on with it!
I have a friend who's dad bought her a car for the cherished numberplate, the car was some top of the range italian sports car(sorry I can't remember the details!) she got no end of snide comments for driving that around!
Enjoy your car, I do.AND I go off road lots I am a farmers wife after all. And shock horror I can indicate properly and drive very well indeed.

I have found that people driving big, fast, expensive vehicles, Mercs, BMWs, Audis, Range & Land Rovers all act so arrogant as if the own the road because their car cost more money than I make in a year. Like they have a god-given right to be there over me.
Wrong answer. We all have to share the roads.
I'm more surprised that despite the amount of money these cars obviously cost, the indicators do not work and only one brake light seems fitted - or just the high level brake light at times.
I drive a modest car. I am happy with that. It gets me from A to B. I plan my routes so I don't need SatNav. The frugal 1.4l engine means it's inexpensive at the pumps and the boot is big enough to ferry gardening materials around and just about anything else.
I don't need to validate myself by coming on here and asking, "How do I cope with people who think I am ordinary because I drive a modest car? (BTW it's an xyz which is a modest, five door, family hatchback for anybody who doesn't know)
Your car is a status symbol that you hope reflects something about you. Well it does. You're dripping cash and you're fast.
Congratulations.

If it doesnt bother you why did you write??
Basically you may have a nice car. Do you talk about it a lot?? If so stop.. thats whats getting on peoples nerves... so will comments like "my M3 is better than x y z car.... "
The comment ( which is a high performance car for anybody who doesnt know) says it all.. an assumption that people wont know what it is in a gloating way.... Thats the kind of comment you need to steer clear of... you could have just said its an high performance car... and left out for anybody who doesnt know.... Its an aloof statement and if you talk like that to people then no wonder they come up with the comments....

How you cope is your problem. If you are the same person whatever you drive then get a mini. The reason people hate BMW drivers is that almost without exception they are terrible drivers with bad road manners. The cars are fine just the people that buy them.

At the end of the day, it's just a car. In the same way some people say you don't need a 4X4 if you don't go of road, you don't need a racing car to drive on the public roads, but It is up to you what sort you drive, you pay for it, so ignore them.

You ARE showing off. The very fact that you had to come on here and ask that stupid question and put it out there that you drive a piece of crap M3 is evidence of that. I say I hope you like paying the ridiculously high price for an ugly vehicle and the even more ridiculously high repair bills since there are a very limited number of people who can work on these and do the work right. Good luck, I'm not jealous, I am laughing at you.

Well usually people would be thinking you show off because you show off. So the question is, do you show off? Or do you drive the same way you would if you drove a Chevette? I do sense attitude. Your term "drivers with lesser cars" kind of bothers me, because, in your terms, I would fall into that category, but I do not consider myself to be lesser or inferior in any way. The last ice storm I went through with my "lesser" car actually proved it was actually vastly superior to a lot of more expensive cars out there.

It's a nice car, but if you're not a complete t*ss*r, you soon will be. No-one has a problem with BMWs, it's the people who drive them. Oh, and I'm not jealous, I can easily afford one.
Lose the car, there are other fast cars. Sorry.
Well you did ask for advice.

do you, in fact show off? if not, you cope by taking a drive, by yourself, knowing that their parents' taurus or camry can in no way inflict the serious sense of automotive bliss, coupled with the ****-eating grin you are forced to try to hide when you pull up to your favorite meeting place... i'm sorry for rambling. i don't own one, but have a friend who does. i'm his personal mechanic and we're close enough that i've borrowed it on several occasions. kick-*** ride! enjoy!
