I dont think we can believe his words as he has many times betrayed us too and hence it may be one of his tricks as he is in habbit of doing that..In pakistan democracy will not be there for a long time even if they have as their history speaks it self.

This should be of interest only to a Pakistani. Has democracy in Pakistan ever made any difference ? Remember Bhutto? He was worse than the dictators as he had to play to the gallery and always keep the people stirred up to stay in power. Let Musharraf do what he wants and as the saying goes People get a Government which they deserve.

He wants to make democractic parliament but he wants to continue as a president. He wants such a position where no one can ask a question against him, he wants to use a kind of dictatorship in his country, but he cant declare full control over the country and he cannot act as a dictator. because america will come and kick him. These days he is getting lot of pressure from US, he has to tackle the religious people in his country and the mounting pressure from Nawas and Benazir.
Full democracy in pakistan like India will be a Dream. In this 60 years of independence, Pakistan remained under military rule for more than 30 years. We could understand that democracy will be a Dream for them...

Pakistan started as an Islamic state. Naturally the citizens had to be kept constantly reminded that they are Islamic so that the legacy of its creation is preserved as a just cause. Naturally oneup manship arises with a holier than thou attitude whether as a democracy or as an authoritarian state.
The bulk of the Muslims who chose to remain in secular India are surely aware that they are equal in all respects enjoying equal previleges though some people just try to instigate for their own reasons: they have to be leaders, they have to be in positions of power or in advantageous positions to leverage some gains. Then Vote bank politics of pamfering different sections of which Muslim vote bank is of considerable size.
These are internal matters, which a democracy has to put up with like in any other country.
But external interference from whatever source is to be tackled firmly as they are not done in the interest of our country's Muslims. Aliens are to be liquidated if required or chased away, while our own citizens are weaned away to the extent possible by peaceful means falling under the laws of our land.
Now as to the present question, President Musharaff's bonafides before being questioned his position is to be understood. The state of affairs in Pakistan at the time of his taking over were not so good. The 9/11 events in America has given a different twist to the conditions there. They were required to fight against the same very people with whom they quelled out the Soviets. Talibans and their foreign guests have to be called from friends in arms to terrorists. Entire Pakistani society can't absorb the transformation instantly. The change has to be gradual. Musharaff has got a very tough job on his hands. He is caught between the Devil and the deep sea. He has to be given the time and adequte powers for some more time. He is a trined and disciplined soldier and trained to reach his targets. He is not a politician to twist his tounge in any way that suits. The best bet is to give him some more time. Even President Bush knows but he has his own Agenda in the 18 months left for him

He is not genuine in his efforts to restore democracy in Pakistan. He is searching ways to stay in power by hook or crook.
