I have been trying for 4 days now to get a timing belt pulley wheel on the bottom of the engine off. There is a 18mm bolt on the pulley that is stubborn and wont come off. I have used a ratchet set with a 24 inch extender bar. I have used a Torque wrench, I have used an impact wrench, and I have even used a standard 3/8's ratchet socket wrench with a 5 foot bar, and still no budging. any ideas? BTW I did spray it with WD-40 and it still wont budge even the slightest, and I even tried to impact it by tightening and loosening it, and still nothing, if I cant figure something out, I am tempted to try a breaker bar, but I dont want to break the bolt... need advice!

Contact me either IM or e-mail 18 mm must be an audi or ford. oh the wonders of locktite. I have used the 1/2 inch breaker bar and hit the starter trick more than once. But there better be a solid place for the bar to hit not the lower tank of the radatior. Some times the gold color of the bolt head and the letter R on the bolt will mean right hand threads? What is it year make model and engine size and miles over 60,000mi or second timing belt over 130,000mi?

I am not sure what type of impact gun you are using but it seem like it is not strong enough to break it. Also if you are using an extension on the impact, you are losing power by using it. Use the gun and the impact socket without and extension and let it sit there until it breaks loose. If it still doesn't break loose, put everything back and drive to your nearest construction rental place and asked if you can use their air. The air compressor they use are much stronger than any home style one. Bring you own gun also because some might not let you borrow theirs.

some are torqued as much as 200 ftlbs and require at min a 3/4drive hd impact gun.. other wise a strong bar on the shop floor and a kick from the starter motor "sometimes" will work
