Team names are supposed to be somewhat intimidating. We all know that. So why do some teams have names like White Sox, Red Sox, Angels, Blue Jays, Orioles, and Cubs? What made people think that a colored sock or a bird or a heavenly being was intimidating?

And FYI, I am a White Sox fan. This has just been confusing me for years.

What MLB team is intimidating? what SPORT team is intimidating i dont know any exept Jaguars
Team names usually have to do with the Location of the team
Bluejay is like Ontario's state bird Red Sox would make sense now because of Curt Shillings bloody sock but i don't know the real reason for that i know the Twins is because St. Paul and Minneapolis are called the TWIN cities

I didn't think that team names were supposed to be intimidating. I thought the names were supposed to represent something about the team or the city they play in.

A name can't be anymore intimidating than what or who it names. If I was a pitcher in the old days the most intimidating name was "Babe", as in Babe Ruth. A batter named Deathbringer From Hell would be far less intimidating if he couldn't hit. Anyway, if you own a baseball club you can pretty much name it anything you want to.

team names are not supposed to be intimidating. Thats why Washington Bullets got axed. Team names are supposed to represent a city or locale, which they clearly don't.

Baseball doesn't have many teams with intimidating nicknames...most of the team names have something to do with the city or it's history...

Where did you get the idea that team names were supposed to be intimidating?

If they were, all the teams would have names relating to stuff like killing, blood, murderers, etc.

i disagree that all team names are supposed to be intimidating. a lot of times teams are named after nearby industries, products, or aspects of nature. it has a lot to do with geography and traits of the region the team is in.
