some thoughts are like seeds from a tree growing on a mountain. they fall into a river, follow a valley to an ocean, where they join millions of other thoughts.....

Either a river or a seed.

A river makes sense because thoughts flow from one thought to another; hince, somebody said "train of thought" - we are always thinking, even if we don't hear the inner voice in our heads. Also, we think about problems - problems are like rocks in said river. Our thoughts figure out a way to pass them, and a lot of the time we find the answer to that particular problem. even so, if this rock happens to be a dam, since we are always thinking, our river of thoughts will eventually overcome the dam.

Thoughts are like seeds because they start small and have the potential to grow into something HUGE. think about it: every great invention that was ever invented started with a thought. If this thought is worth persuing, more is thought about it. therefore, said seed grows into something we can work with. The thought becomes an idea, and the idea becomes a tangible idea, like fruit off a vine. vines start from seeds, but whatever we do with the fruit is our decision. just like what we do with our own thoughts is our own decision.

A thought is more like a microwave oven than any of the above. Thoughts, as opposed to unprocessed raw sense data and feelings, involve artificial processes by which we abstract individual objects out of their integrated objects, and further abstract concepts from these objects. The processes aren't completely artificial, but they're not passive.
___Infants and animals don't have thoughts, only sensations and feelings. Thoughts depend on learning a language, another artifice.
___(Looking at things broadly, though, the distinction between "natural" and "artificial" is only a convenient fiction. In the broadest sense of "natural", everything that comes to be is necessarily within the domain of nature, including humans and all their enterprises. In the broadest sense of "natural", what is unnatural is impossible. Humans use the word "artificial" to distinguish those natural things and events that are the results of human activity from those natural things and events that are not.)

Thoughts can grow like seeds.
Memories can root like trees.
Life flows like a river.
Where all the world mingles as an ocean.
And evaporates to fall as the rain of new thoughts on the minds of all, whether they are growing on a high mountain or a low valley.

More like a seed. You have to add water (ie more ideas and thoughts) to make them "grow"
