Ok, I have a tank with 5 fish in it- a regular gold fish, a popeyed gold fish, a bottomfeeder and 2 silver/white Mollie.
It's a 25-gallon tank, and the water is the correct temperature(81 degrees Fareinheit),
But, just today, the popeye goldfish got this odd, white, filmy stuff covering his tail, and got weird bumps. The two Mollies got these weird, orangey-yellow cyst-like things near their gills and eyes. The Bottom Feeder and Goldfish are normal, and both the Mollies seem ok other than the weird cysts, but the Popeye Fish is dying, or so he seems.
Any idea of what this could be? Is it contagious? Can we save our fish? Please help!

Thanks for the help- it is Ick(Or Ich, however it's spelled), I searched and saw some pics of what it is...we're treating them now, actually.

And truthfully, I don't think the goldfish does too bad in the warmer water- it's over a year old, it's a year and 2 1/2 months old.

I doubt that it's columnaris, but in case it is treat it with Furanase or Maracyn TC.
Forget completely about Maracyn or Maracyn , not good for that at all, also don't use Pimafix, it's trash that will not cure any disease.

I think it's more likely a protozon infestation causing the external part and a liver infection causing the popeye. Again treat with Furanase, but also medicated food for bacterial infections and Flagyl.

Treat as prescribed on the package itself, that means at least 7-10 days for external stuff and 10-14 days for internal stuff. These are antibiotics.

Columnaris causes fungus looking like patches not round modules.

A salt bath would be ineffective in either case, Sorry but VG is way off base on this one.

Don't forget to take out the Carbon cartridge when you medicate, but leave the filter on.
Also as soon as you are done with treatment, do at least a 50% partial waterchange with a gravelsiphon.

Hope that helps
Good luck

It's not ich and your ich medications will not work on this. The disease will continue to progress untreated and your fish will get sicker. Ich is white bumps, not yellow-orange bumps. Ich is a parasite. This disease is called Columnaris and it's a bacterial infection. Columnaris is a result of water with too high pH value, high temperatures, oxygen depletion and water contaminated with faecal matter. Poor water quality in poorly maintained aquariums or acute stress can encourage the disease. While goldfish can survive in warmer water temperatures, it does weaken them and reduce their ability to fight infection, which is probably why this is happening. 81 degrees is very, very warm for goldfish. Mollies, just in general, seem to be very susceptible to this disease as well. Columnaris appears as whitish plaques or thick mucus with red on the head and fins especially around the caudal fin. Also, lesions rapidly progress to ulcers usually within 24 hours, which may be yellow or orange due to masses of pigmented bacteria, thus, your yellow-orange cyst-like things. You need to treat with antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline hydrochloride and Neomycin sulphate. Maracyn-2 is a commercial name that works well for this disease. Pimafix is also very good. You should start first, though, with a salt bath of 1/2 cup of salt per 1 gallon of water. This is a dip, not a permanent situation. You leave the fish in until it stops moving. Then you nudge the fish and it will start swimming again. Keep doing this, but not for more than a total of 5 minutes, until the fish no longer responds to the nudging. Then remove it and put it back in your fresh water where you have done a 50% water change. You must lower your water temperature to around 75-76 degrees because warm water accelerates the progress of columnaris. Or, you can dilute a solution such as Rid-All Copper Aid and dip the fish the same way. This is a contagious disease, and it sounds like all of your fish have it anyway, so you'll need to treat the whole tank. Remove your filter media while using the medication, as the filter will remove the medication from the water. Then, when treatment is over, you can replace the filter media. Treatment can take many weeks, so a lot of dedication and patience is required, but it can be cured.

that's a secret, It appears like possibly inner parasites. in the event that they are interior the tank, they could get to any fish you put in there, yet staring on the parasite, the fish does not be contagious, which might clarify why the ten gallon tanks weren't contaminated once you moved the fish there. If I have been you, i might bleach each thing, toss clear out cartridges, bleach the clear out, start up from scratch. it quite is beneficial to place the present fish in a differnt tank, or you is uncertain in case you fixed the concern interior the 40. i might use top or API stresscoat products to situation the water ans help the fish hold a sturdy slimw coat, wich is their important immune device. wish you detect restoration this problem, sturdy success!

I am sorry, I don't know what it is. But try writing down the "symptoms", taking pictures, or even bringing some fish to your petstore. Ask a person who knows alot about fish what is wrong with your fish, and have them help you find medicine for them.

I am worried your fish, though. Goldfish are coldwater fish and prefer cooler water (low 70's) and tropical fish like your mollies like warmer water (high 70's to 80) Goldfish kept in warmer water have a higher chance of disease.

sounds like Ick. Its contagous. Or it could be this other fungus stuff. Go to your local pet store and they will have medicines for ick and fungus. You put in like a capfull of it for ever 10 gallons. It ussually isn't deadly, I've treated fish alot of times, but however, some fish are more sensative, as in your case the Popeye fish is dying, popeyes are known to be very delicate. Go get the medicine NOW! i had an algea eating fish, i forget what theyre called, plaketen... something like that, anyway, it died from it, my other fish survived though.
