There's a ban on the way!
30mph above the speed limit = ban!
ie 60 in 30, 70 in 40, 80 in 50 etc.....

I fail to understand how ANYONE doesn't realise what speed they were doing... until they get caught.
In keeping with what has been said already, within a certain tolerance band, your friends can expect a fine of £60 and 3 points on her licence. I'm not sure about insurance premiums - that may be something she will have to discuss with her insurers next time she applies for insurance renewal.
Over the certain tolerance band, it will not be a simple case of a fine and points. She will likely have to attend court.
As for the 100mph ban... I really do not know. The maximum speed in the UK is 70mph and 100mph seems so reckless.
If nothing else, may it serve her as a reminder that driving is a privilege that can be taken away, temporarily or permanently and that with driving on public roads comes great public responsibility.

Just thought I would share this with you, as you know I work
in the
speeding fine department in ********** Magistrate's Court and
in the
course of my investigation into "fines, their payment
methods, and how
points are automatically added against drivers licences" we
discovered something very interesting "If You Get a Speeding
Fine."
This has been tried and it works I tried to send this to
everyone I know.
I know that for a fact it works so if you ever get in this
situation, you have an out.
We discovered that this procedure works nationwide.
Read it and try it, you have nothing to lose but the points
on your license.
This is how it works:
If you get a speeding ticket or went through a red light or
whatever
the case may be, and you are going to get points on your
licence, then
there is a method to ensure that you DO NOT get any points.
When you
get your fine, send in the cheque to pay for it and if the
fine is say, £40, then make the cheque out for £41
or some
small amount
over the fine. The system will then have to send you back a
cheque
for the difference, but here is the trick!
**DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHEQUE!!!** Throw it away!!
Points are not endorsed to be added to your licence until
all financial
transactions are complete. If you do not cash the cheque,
then the
transactions are NOT complete. However, the system has
received its money and is happy and will not bother you any
more.
This information came to our attention from a very reliable
computer
company that sets up the standard database used by each
county's
computing system.
Good luck and share this with all your friends and other
family members as well!!!

There is no set answer to this i am afraid until she goes to court, at the speed she was doing she will not be issued a instant fine but summons to court, she will then need to explain herself to the magistrates court why she was travelling the speed she was doing.
If she can show that she needs to keep her licence in extreme circumstances they will allow her to keep it but she will likely still received 12 points and a large fine, anymore points after this would occur a ban.
However i mean it would be extreme circumstances, taking the kids to school or needing the car for work is not a good enough reason these days, they normally only grant exemptions to the ban for medical reasons, IE you have to travel to hospital each week out of your area for a medical treatment like chemo which is life dependant and you have no other means to get there. So unless her reason for keeping her licence is life and death she may face a ban.
CHARLIE - THAT "LOOPHOLE" IS A URBAN MYTH.
Just search speeding fine myth on a search engine or look at the link below
http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/features/motoring-myths/
AND SCROLL DOWN TO NUMBER 4 ON THE LIST.
Your licence is still endorsed with the points. Some forces will send back the orginal cheque informing you to re-send it with the correct amount and failure to do so would warrent further prosecution.

I am pretty sure your friend will get ONE point for every mile per hour above the speed limit.
If by "just under 100" you mean, say, 99mph, then that is at least 39 points. Loss of licence and a hefty fine = 12 or points.
You know something ? I am glad... 100 on a single carriageway... your friend is pretty irresponsible. It could be you driving the opposite way next time.... so it is great that he/she is off the road hopefully forever.

other answerers are correct, over 100 mph expect a ban. duel carriageways are usually 70mph unless marked otherwise. speed cameras usually allow 10% to allow for inacuracies in the car's speedo, but if your friend was doing over a ton then tell them to expect quite a large fine and some time on public transport.

100 mph will surely get a ban, this will normally be dealt with by the courts rather than the fixed penalty system which is normally 3 points £60 fine.
