And why do they come close to us, if they're supposed to be so scared?

Because they see a dark hole and go in for a look. They may just fall in if you snore like I do.

Simply put, spiders crawl into our mouths because they view it as another dwelling. Also, since it's dark, they have trouble distinguishing what is what.
