some say your brain has something called a narrator.
it gives reason and ideas for why you do what you do.
(they say it gives us an idea of having a soul)

other than that we only respond to our enviroment and function like a plane on autopilot.

we work with an autopilot because if not, we would break down everything that we experience and our minds would be too full of random seeming thoughts.

people with brain damage might have a malfunctioning narrator and tend to remain on auto pilot, and cannot apply reason to their actions.

when that happens, they tend to believe they have lost time.

this is a great show talking about just that, unfortunalty I cannot find the video online

I say daydreaming can have the same results.

As a child of about ten years old( 40 something years ago) I was sitting in my bedroom and literally the blink of an eye more than 12 hrs passed, I had no affects or illness just the jump in time, this was a time when abductions were unheard of in this country, in the folllowing years I did have strange feelings about being watched by small people!! although I did not see them. I did draw the people from my imagination and many years later in a book of strange phenomena I saw an identical picture drawn by somebody in the states. A strange being with large eyes ( not a grey ) kind of claws for hands and unusually large feet, I remember calling this thing a Gunnnannywobbble, God knows why! I also had dreams of being floated through a closed window into a vessel ( for want of a better word ) which was very small. Another bizzare thing that still happens to me even now is being woken up or having a strong urge to look at the clock or get out of bed at 3.33am, I,ve even hidden the clock away from my sight and the irresistable urge for me to look at it has been so overwhelming I have to do it and Lo and behold the time is 3.33am it really is the strangest thing. One other thing is I do have an interest in Aliens etc. and watch the usual programmes made about them, there was an incident where people drew their Aliens one in particular (this was a grey ) I had the srongest of feelings that I should not be looking at it.

Yes, though never as long as an hour!
It often happens when I'm reading, and I'll suddenly realise I've been on the same page for 15 - 25 mins.
My son calls it, 'the lights are on but nobody's home, syndrome'
Doctor says it goes with the vertigo type condition I have. If it has suddenly started see your GP!

You can have a lapse of consciousness, but it is usually only common in victims of a recent head injury. If you have not had one, you should immediately see your doctor, for it could be serious.
