There are different opinions all over the web, and since I am a drummer all I know is what sounds good, not what takes the most skill to play. So who do you think are the top 5 all time guitarists and the top 5 current guitarists?

Most of the current guitarists are not very good guitar players, they find a cool tone, learn a few chords, and crank it up. My 10 year old daughter can play almost every song that she hears from the current batch of guitarists.

I haven't studied on guitarists much, but I do know that Jimi Hendrix was/is still considered the most skilled and amazing guitarist ever. Although I don't listen to him much because like you said, I like listening to stuff that sounds good, and Jimi doesn't sound good to me even if he is skilled.
I listen to Slash from Guns N Roses because he sounds good, and he's also skilled i'm sure.
Other famous guitarists are Eddie Van Halen from the band Van Halen, and Eric Clapton, and Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin.
Hope that helps =) my most fav guitarist is Slash though.
