I am relocating to Seattle for work. I will be working out of my house and traveling throughout the Seattle area, so I do not need to live anywhere specific. My first reaction is to live downtown. I want to be near the night life, restaurants, etc., and also in a safe area. I'd prefer not to live too far from the water either.

I need a 1 BR + den or 2BR apartment, and cannot pay over $1500/month. I need help on figuring out where to live.

Do you have any suggestions? Please detail out why you are suggesting a certain neighborhood rather than just telling me "Belltown" or whatever.

Thanks!

The two big areas in town for nightlife are Belltown and Pioneer Square. One is south of downtown, the other north.

I wouldn't really recommend either to live. There are lots of newer apartments in Belltown, but still crime is higher than in other parts of the city and amenities (like a supermarket) are in neighborhoods further out.

Places to consider:
Queen Anne - lots of apartments on lower Queen Anne. You could be close to restaurants and other amenities. Chances of a view apartment are good. Rents will be higher here because this is a desirable place to be.
Pros - kinda upscale. Lots of apartments and condos.
Cons - not near the freeway at all. Street Parking is difficult - make sure you get parking with the apartment.

Capitol Hill - again, lots of apartments. Near many restaurants and amenities. Walking distance to downtown if you wanted to. Parts of Capitol Hill are considered the "gay" section of town. Easy freeway access.
Cons - again, street parking is difficult.

Ballard - fewer apartments. Slightly lower rents. Shops and amenities nearby.
Cons - less "trendy" neighborhood. Poor freeway access

Wallingford - more houses, fewer apartments. shops and amenities nearby.
Cons - walking distance to UW so you might end up with lots of college students as neighbors. Desirable neighborhood, so higher rents.

Fremont - funky neighborhood. Traffic has been bad lately as they redo the bridge. Street parking is awful. Lots of shops, restaurants and bars nearby.

When I was single and living in Seattle, I was in Ballard, capitol hill, and North Slope of Queen Anne. If I could have found the perfect apartment in any neighborhood, I would have chosen either Wallingford or South Slope of Queen Anne.

Good luck!

I accept as true with aspects of the final couple of posts. The southend is a huge hidden gem. There are aspects of the south which at the instant are not super, yet places like Burien south of 128th, east of 509, Des Moines and the west hill of Kent are all super places to discover sensible rents. North is so lots greater sturdy for commuting purposes. Like maximum massive cities there are sturdy aspects and undesirable aspects. One quite super element that no one has reported yet, is that Seattle is getting a delicate rail interior the south end which will help lots with congestion in this section. You do want to stay nearer to the place you paintings however. So start up there. It does rain right here, yet each section has some situation. the super area approximately Seattle is the locals learn how to take excitement in the warmth months and days that we do have. there are a number of them too. Seattle is a public transportation inspired, eco friendly, cool city, with super suburbs. we've super trekking, snowboarding, lakes, mountains, coast and the kind of super variety of different activities all interior of a short holiday. in case you reside right here i don't think of you will sense sorry approximately it. I quite have lived in Portland,OR, Denver, Spokane and Yakima. i admire residing in Burien, i'm close to to the city in basic terms approximately 15 minutechronic. there are a number of golf equipment and bars interior the city too. in case you're in seek of greater of the singles existence type.

Downtown Seattle at night is not a good place to be. A lot of drug dealers, prostitutes, etc. Bellevue, Redmond, Edmonds, Issaqua are not too far from Seattle, but much more reasonable rates as far as rent, food, etc.
