It's not hidden, it's not called Area 51, democracy just means that we elect the officials, not what they do afterwards. National Secrets are Secret for a reason, perhaps you've heard of National Security?

Here's a real answer for you:

The government has classified programs to protect information and technology from enemies. Which it then uses to protect itself (the USA) from said enemies.

What good is it to develop a high-survivability stealth bomber when the rest of the world could simply walk into Area 51 (while it's being developed), study what's being tested, and know every way to design counter weapon systems to destroy it?

Hence places like Area 51 exist. Kind of a boring explanation compared to UFOs and whatever other reason people want to make up I know. But such is life.

And another thing: Because of the Freedom of Information Act - you will eventually get to see all the classified documents about what is going on there... once that information is no longer sensitive to national security. So chill out and stop looking over your shoulder all the time for aliens.

The government isn't denying it's presence or the fact that it has classified/restricted areas. The military and civilain contractors need those areas for real-world design, testing, and development of the weapons our military needs to do it's job well in the future.

no... look at how big universe is, there are billions of galaxies, if not trillions, and we are in one of the galaxies, there are billions of solar systems in a galaxy, and we are in one of those solar systems, our planet is so small... yes there might aliens living out there, but not in area -51... if there are aliens they certainly do not look like the ones u see in tv and on the internet, plus what's the chance of having another species finding out where we live? it would be like 1/9999999999999999999999999999 chance... and if aliens were really had that technology to find our planet and visit us, do we really think that UFO's and other "alien spacecraft" can crash that easily in some kansas farm? area-51 actually just tests aircraft that is very high in technology... and they don't want foreign countries to see what they are testing, so the USA tries to keep it top secret so enemies won't figure out what kind of aircraft we have so that enemies won't use that type of aircraft in wars... those UFO thingies are really just test aircraft from area-51, i think the government is trying to make people think aliens are in area-51 but that's not true. if aliens were in area-51, they should already have enough technology to get to earth and tell all their other "alien buddies" where they are, and they would probably send a huge alien army to earth to conquer it because earth is a very good planet for water and land...

another possibility: area-51 is used to distract the average red-neck american into doing so much research that they don't realize our problems today... actual smart people know that's BS and we know about all the global warming problems, economic problems, poverty, etc. and if we were to all fix those problems we would need to have some sort of petition. only 35% of americans are actually "smart." the other 65% are red necks who believe in all kind of conspiracies, like aliens, the JFK conspiracy, how the US government did the whole 9/11 thing... i think that this is all going out into the media about how aliens are in area-51 and stuff like that so red necks won't help us smart people chance our country, which is exactly what the government wants, to make it easy for them...

Area 51 is a testing area for reverse engineered aircraft...SkunkWorks, for one, was a program supposedly started in area 51...it's where the stealth program was developed...Black Ops, another program supposedly from area 51....Read the book "Hunt for Zero Point" by Nick Cook...it'll explain a lot of things...call it a hoax or believe in it...we are making leaps and bounds in aircraft technology...

Groom Lake/Tonopah is a secure technology test area for the DOD. Politics has nothing to do with important secrets that cost a lot of money to research and develop. National security is at stake if there is a potential danger utilized to use exposed programs to harm others.

Simple. It's not a democracy. It's a Republic where we elect our gov't officials to make decisions and run things for us. Part of that includes national security and military secrets.

Whether Area 51 is a high tech weapons testing facility, or housing alien technology, we have elected our representatives to make those decisions for us.

Area 51 is real. It's part of Nellis AFB in Nevada. But there are no aliens, no UFOs, and no cover up.

They test top-secret cutting-edge aircraft there. No UFO's or anything like that. And quite frankly the public shouldn't know what is going on in there. How easy is it then for the Chinese or Russians or anyone to steal all of out technology? That can't be allowed to happen. Just know that you can sleep safely tonight.

Area 51 is nothing but a big Concentration Camp.
It is holding thousands of Space Aliens, that we have captured over the years.
They now have their own Government, and are expanding in area everyday.
