simple-picture it. i bet you dont have as hard a time watching movies (i hope not) its coz your brain interprets pictures more vividly than symbols or characters. when i first tried to read a book to fully grasp it, i tried reading the book like it were a favorite movie of mine, one that i can watch slowly, fast foward through the boring bits, or just pause when am tired to start off on it later. try it and you'll get 'into' what you're reading much easier. hope that helps.

I would like to suggest two things to you:
1. Get a copy of "How to read a book" by Mortimer J. Adler & Charles Van Doren. It has excellent information on how to get the most out of your reading. I found an used copy at the Good Will bookstore, you might want to begin there or at your local library.
2. Use a dictionary. Usually when we don't get what we read it's because there is a lot of word we don't understand but we go ahead and keep reading. Whenever you encounter a new word look it up in the dictionary, before you know it you will understand more of what you read.
In order to make yourself love reading pick topics that interest you. I love travel writing because it transports me to places I"ve never been. You might like music, art, photography, romance, just find something you like and go with that. Good luck to you in your reading!

I would suggest you pick up a few simple chapter-books, like the pre-teen romances or maybe one of the series aimed at 10-13 year olds. I know the stories will be silly, but the plot will be simple enough that you should be able to stay on track, read the whole thing and enjoy it.
Then, as these become really easy for you move up to a simple fiction series aimed at young adults. Like anything, we have to pracrtice comprehension skills, and it sounds like either your school or your folks didn't help you with that.
But, I really commend you for wanting to be a reader! There is no greater joy in the world.
Good luck!

Go to the library and ask about the literacy program, tell them you want to learn to read.
If it's just not knowing how to read a book, it's like reading a a magazine. You pick one up, you read each page (every word from left to right) and concentrate on reading it. Start with fiction books, of some kind. It takes time to find what kind, one likes. Think of reading fiction as entertaining. think of it as escaping from reality, even though temporarily. Think of it as traveling with out leaving home. To understand what you read, you have to read it slow. Also think about the title.
For example, let's say you see a book called "Fudge Cupcake Murder". What does it mean to you? Naturally, it means someone was murdered while eating or holding, a fudge cupcake. It know it's hard, Ashly Stella, but it's necessary and I hope you understand, what I just said-that this helps. If you can learn to read fiction books, you can learn to read non fiction ones. Being able to read them, will help you in school and in life. I think you need some friendly help, someone whose patient and understanding. You might have to read a book many times, to understand it. That's natural.
If you really like to read a specific book, you'll end up reading it again, and again, no matter how often. It's like learning, in that it takes time and concentration. I know you can do it, if you allow yourself to. Please let me know, how this turns out.

Take it more slowly. I tend to skim read, so not all of it goes in. As u read, think about what u are reading, what the main characters are thinking or doing. Which bits do u enjoy most? Stop and think abou them. Hope this helps.

Well, sadly,n one can teach you how to love reading, you either do,or you don't,but,if you really want to know, try reading something that's just so good, you can't put it down!it doesn't matter what it is,romance, western, mystery, drama, horror, etc.
just pick one that interests you,not something someone"told"you to read.i think that's part of the problem&that's why I didn't reccomend anything specific
