the king of dirty tricks, such as saying that Ann Richards was a drunk, when she had been a 20 year recovering alcoholic, thus deflecting the rumors of Dubya's own drunkard ways. The slimy trick of robot calling people in S.C. and playing on race and all the innuendos they could about McCain's wife etc including McCain was mentally unstable, that his wife had -- was a drug addict when she had had some problems with prescription drugs in the past, and that he had fathered an illegitimate black child.
This is why he is despised. He took an institution that was already apathetic and dragged it in the slime and the mud. So no matter what he does and says, slime is as slime does.

You forgot about his campaigning techniques to win Bush the Repub nomination in the first place. Things like calling up voters and asking "If you found out that John McCain had an illegitimate black child, would that influence your vote?"

Dirty tricks often work, and Rove was the slimiest and dirtiest trickster we've had as a high-ranking official for a long time.

No, they just don't like the fact that the rank-and-file of the GOP seem so darn gullible. And by the way, more people voted for Gore over Bush in 2000. Bush got the presidency only because of the old aristocratic electoral college law.

Oh yeah, and you forgot to mention the 2006 congressional elections. Bush was pretty upset with Rove for not "winning" that one too.

Yes. Hitler also won the popular vote by manipulating and controlling the press, creating fear and questioning the patriotism of those who were not afraid, and extensive diseducation of the masses. Dems in general dislike Rove not because he "won" but because his tactics are so counter to true democracy.

Well, if he never beat them, they wouldn't waste their time or energy on him. However, that doesn't mean that he doesn't have some of it coming to him.

Are you admitting that Bush had nothing to do with his own elections -- that he was a mere figurehead?

That's an odd position for a conservative to take.
