I have been out of High School for 20 years and would love to go back to college. I was never really all that great with math but really want to know and somewhat understand Algebra. If it is even possible I want to teach myself....any ideas?

One helpful thing is to get a Algebra text book. I taught myself Pre-Algebra last year, and that was really helpful. Just go through the book doing random problems from each section. Then take both of the tests that are given in the book. It might help to set a certain grade that you can only get below x amount of times. So for example: if you set the grade for 89, then you can only get below an 89 one time. It helps because it gives you a reason to try really hard. Another idea is to visit www.coolmath.com. I know it sound weird, but if you're confused about something, it can explain things. Another idea is to look around Yahoo! Answers, and look at the answers for Algebra questions.

I hope this helped!

I dont mean to insult, but do you know the DUMMIES series of books? These are typically excellent and provide understanding of complex topics in an easy to understand format.

I'm sure there must be an Algebra for Dummies book available :0)

There might be other simplified Algebra books available....
check your local bookstore. These books are designed for people in your exact situation!

I would suggest a SparkNotes book on Algebra. You could probably find lots of other helpful books for that at the bookstore. The College Board might have a book helpful for that too.

It is possible, but you probably work and it is not easy in your spare time. You can look into courses taught at community colleges, which try to do what the high schools didn't do.
