I have a 6 month old son. He has not taken his bottle all day today, and i am worried. He is teething, but normally i can put some oragel on his gums then give him some tylonal and he is good to go, but he wont take his bottle. it is the same one, and nothing has changed. I have been feeding him rice ceareal, so i know he is eating something, but he won't take his bottle at ALL. what should i do? is this normal?

As long as he is drinking something and eating cereal, I wouldn't worry. Perhaps he only wants solid foods today. Give him a little watered down juice so he gets fluids and continue on food.

This is normal. He will eat when he gets hungry enough. Have you tried some warm water in a bottle. My daughter went thru the same thing. I would only worry if this goes on for more than a few days absolutely refusing all bottles.

Try giving him liquid with a spoon or dropper.

Sometimes the bottles develop a bad taste... Give the bottles a good scrub and scalding including the nipples and make a new batch of formula. If anything is off taste the baby will refuse it.

maybe the cereal tastes better to him than the bottle.

He won't starve in 24 hours. You are mixing the cereal with formula, so he is getting nutrition.

I know my daughter was about that age when she started weaning and sometimes it was very hard to get her to take the breast/bottle, sometimes.

Call your doctor if he doesn't take the bottle after tonight.

Does he cry or act like he's in pain if he lies down? That could be his ears bothering him.

Try offering him a sippy cup with you holding it. If his ears or gums hurt, the cup might be more interesting than sucking on the bottle.

Should not worry too much, remember he is getting his formula when you mix it in his cereal. If he is teething, his gums are probably swollen and sore and sucking irritates this. Try not to give too much meds! If you are still worried, call your pediatrics and get his/her advice.
