I'm not sure how to go about asking for work at places that are family owned or like a private business or nite club. I always feel awkward. Does anyone have tips?

First consider things you are good at and like to do.
Next, go and interview businesses that might need someone with your talent(s)
Do not concern yourself with salary amount. Just get started and show them what you are capable of.
Be willing to learn.

Just go in and ask for the manager on duty. Then ask them if they are accepting applications. You have to be 21 to work in a night club because you wouldn't be able to serve drinks until you are of legal age.
