college question?

Hi everyone! well i am 14 going to be 15 this october and i'm the type of person that always likes to plan ahead and i already have a scholarship to a university so i have a question. i have a 4 month old parakeet and since i'll be leaving home and will be moving into a dorm room i was thinking,do they allow pets? i mean,it's just a parakeet ,so does it depend on the college or what? p.s. the college is texas a&m university. thanks!=)

I don't know what TAMU's policy on pets in the dorms is, but speaking from my experience, chances are you won't be able to take your parakeet. It all depends on the college, but in my experience most dorms only allow fish or frogs or something small that lives in a tank. My suggestion is to contact the housing department at the school and ask. If they don't generally allow pets, maybe you can get special permission, or maybe it varies from dorm (which may influence which dorm you choose, if you have a choice). Just contact the housing department, by email or phone will be fine, and ask. It can't hurt to try, right?

By the way, good for you for planning ahead. Not enough people do and they tend to get lost in the last minute shuffle. Congrats on your scholarship and good luck at college!

It does depend on the college. Most colleges will no let you keep a parakeet. Some colleges don't allow any pets. The college I went to allowed only small fish.

E-mail someone in the res life and housing office at the school to find out exactly what their rules are.

Most only allow goldfish in a small tank. I had 5 parakeets when I moved to the college dorms. My mother said she would take care of them..... well she didn't. Only 1 left now :(
