I would like to submit a proposal to some popular magazines regarding ideas I have for their publication. How can I learn more about how to draft a proposal and know what each editor is looking for?

Go to the Reference section in the library and get The Writers'Market. In it you will find which magazines are buying what, how much they will pay, and exactly how to submit your work.

Good luck.

Submit only one idea per query letter. Anymore you'll be seen as an amateur. Explain how you will develop your idea in an article. Also you are going to need creditentials to prove you can do the job. By credentials, you need to list other magazines or newspapers where you have been published. For magazine writing, there are colleges that offer courses on the subject. The trick to magazine writing is stringing each paragraph together with transition sentences.

There are how to books on this topic. I suggest one that's published, by Writer's Digest. But in addtion to doing what the books says, you have to choose some magazines and read their guidelines. Then write some stories, one at a time, and then read them and make some needed changes if any, then submit the stories.
