As soon as a man is old enough to make the decision for himself. I would have gotten one at 16, if it was legal, because I already knew that I didn't want any children.
I got mine just before I turned 22. I tried two places when I was 18, they would not allow it because I had no kids, and was too young. I didn’t try again until I was 21, and then it was no problem because I lied about having a child.
Anyway, it was not the law that stalled me (the law says 18). It was the policy of the individual clinics. They impose their own brand of morals on their customers. I found out that paying cash helps a lot.
I have since learned that the age limit is only 18. That is true everywhere in the USA.
I am 41 now. I am still thinking my lucky stars that I got mine!
You know what is funny? People still say I got mine when I was too young.

Maybe you should realize that it has nothing to do with age! I'm not a doctor or a man, but I know that much at least! Men shouldn't get vasectomies until they are prepared to accept the consequences; i.e. that they may never be able to reproduce again. SO a man should be at a certain level of maturity before he makes that decision. Yes, there is a reverse vasectomy procedure, but it's not guaranteed to be effective. And you should also know that a vasectomy procedure is not always 100% effective either. You have to wait a year and then have your semen tested. My friend's husband had to have the procedure done twice!

If you have 'bad genes' so to speak, carry a genetic disease of condition and you KNOW for a FACT that you don't EVER want children, the earlier the better. Probably though 27 is the youngest you'd want to get this done if you don't have any reason other than you 'just don't want kids". Things change and once it's done and successful, reversal is painful, costly and not anywhere close to 100% effective.

Why does it have to be an age? Most men get a vasectomy after having had all the children that they want.

Men and their partners over the age of 25, who are seriously committed to not having more children now, or in the future.
Men for whom other forms of contraception are not safe alternatives for themselves or their spouse.
Men who want to enjoy sex without the fear of unwanted pregnancy.
Men who do not feel ‘forced’ into this decision by others or financial circumstances.
Men who want to take the responsibility of contraception.
Men who are concerned about passing on a genetic disease or hereditary disability.
Before making a decision, discuss these and all related issues with your spouse, and seek the advice of your physician.

Anyone over the age of 21 can get one? I think you're question is..."Should I get a vasectomy" or "What are the reasons why you shouldn't."
