the numbers are:

39, 40, 40, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 52, 55

the first quartile is the median of the lower half, and the third quartile is the median of the upper half. How do I split 11 numbers into two even halves?

Very carefully. For all intent purposes, you can use the third-highest and third-lowest numbers for your 1st and 4th quartile. You usually don't worry too much about the middle two.

If you want to be a purist, you can do a weighted average, but for numbers to this accuracy, it's overkill.

2ºQ =X(6)= 45

1ºQ =(Median of 5) = X(3)= 40 [3=(1+5)/2]

3ºQ= (Median of 5) = X(9) =48 [9=(7+11)/2]
