Brisbane - I had an Hawaiian housemate on exchange last semester and she absolutely loved it. There are several top-notch universties (UQ, QUT, Griffith etc) with excellent facilities. Housing prices are much cheaper than what you'd find down south in Sydney. People are very friendly, weather is nearly always sunny, great nightlife etc. Even if you manage to get bored it's a quick drive/train ride down to the Gold Coast where there's theme parks, more clubs and shopping, and of course beaches...

If your planning to hit Australia for just one Semester I suggest that the Gold Coast is the best resort city to live for students. There are plenty of night clubs, parties, people, sunny weather, Prices too are reasonable in comparision to Melbourne and Sydney. But the greatest thing of all on the Gold Coast is that you can hit the beach in the skimpiest clothes and go surfing.

Melbourne is definetly the better city to be. Robert De Niro, the Hollywood actor, because he thought that it was a more sophisticated city, then Sydney. There is lots to do in Melbourne, and everything is close to the central business district, plenty of places to do shopping at dicounted prices all year round. You will find any food you want here, as there are many inexpensive places to eat at. As for partiess, it all depends on how easy it is for you to make friends.

Sydney is the way to go. It is big, beautiful and exciting with the best nightlife in the country. Sydney has great universities with excellent societies and clubs catering for all tastes. Apart from housing, it is no more expensive than anywhere else and even with accommodation, Melbourne and Perth are rapidly catching up.

Definately the City of Stanley in Tasmania, they have a large University with Starbucks close by, they also have shops like FRED and The Gap and J.C. Penney, also the other bonus is the weather is just like Tijuana. Great nite life.

Melbourne as it is a very multi-cultural city with many things to do. If you want nice warm weather spend a semester in Cairns (North QLD) the party scene up there is really good too.
