I wanted to find out the maximum memory capacity on my computer is.

I have an HP Pavillion Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.4GHz, 1.49 GB of RAM

I wanted to buy another 1GB stick of DDR RAM, because it's on sale right now for so cheap, but when i went to www.crucial.com, it says my maximum memory capacity is 2GB...

I've heard people say though that crucial.com can sometimes be off, so i didn't just want to take their word. But at the same time, i don't want to by a gig, if my computer can only take 512MB more...

So how else, other than referring to that site, can i find out what the max amount of RAM i can put on my computer is??

You can contact your motherboard mfg. However if you add 512 MB it will be enough for a long time. My pc has 3GB of ram, but my ram gauge says it uses only 28% most of the time. Google gadgets has a meter that measures processor usage and ram usage. Download it--you will see that even 1.5GB of ram is as much as you will use most of the time.

Without the model number, it is tough to tell because every model is different. One has a maximum of 1Gb while others are higher.

If all else fails you could read the documentation that came with your computer.
